What We Do

Programmes Built for Real Lives

Every programme EFBCS delivers is culturally safe, trauma-informed, and designed with — not just for — the communities we serve.

Newcomer Settlement & Integration Support

For: Newcomers, immigrants, and refugees newly arrived in Calgary and Alberta

We help newcomers navigate life in Canada with dignity and confidence. From understanding systems and accessing services to building social networks — we walk alongside individuals and families during the most disorienting and critical transition of their lives.

Women's Empowerment & Leadership

For: Women of all backgrounds, with a focus on newcomer and marginalized women

Women are the backbone of every community. EFBCS creates spaces where women can develop leadership skills, find their voice, build economic confidence, and connect with networks that open doors. From workshops to mentorship to community leadership opportunities — this programme is built to elevate.

Youth Leadership Development

For: Youth and young adults in Calgary, particularly from newcomer and immigrant families

The next generation deserves more than a seat at the table — they deserve the tools to build it. EFBCS youth programmes develop civic engagement, critical thinking, mentorship skills, and cultural pride in young people navigating between worlds.

Community Engagement & Civic Participation

For: Individuals, families, and community groups across diverse cultural backgrounds

Communities thrive when people feel they belong and have a voice. EFBCS facilitates community events, cultural celebrations, awareness campaigns, and civic education sessions that strengthen social bonds and increase participation in Calgary's broader public life.

Education, Skills Development & Employment Readiness

For: Adults seeking employment, language improvement, or vocational skills

Access to education and employment is fundamental to self-reliance. EFBCS connects community members to training opportunities, literacy support, employment navigation, and skills workshops that reduce economic barriers and open pathways to sustainable livelihoods.

Mental Health, Wellness & Social Support

For: Individuals and families experiencing social isolation, stress, or trauma

Wellbeing is not a luxury — it is a precondition for everything else. EFBCS promotes mental health awareness, reduces stigma, and provides referral pathways and peer support for individuals dealing with stress, isolation, trauma, or crisis — particularly within communities where mental health remains underserved.

Diversity, Inclusion & Anti-Racism Initiatives

For: Organizations, institutions, and community members

EFBCS advocates for a Calgary where every person is seen, respected, and valued. We facilitate cross-cultural dialogue, anti-racism education, and inclusion-focused events that build understanding and reduce prejudice across communities.

Environmental Awareness & Sustainable Practices

For: All community members

We believe sustainable communities are healthy communities. EFBCS integrates environmental awareness into programming — helping community members understand and participate in Calgary's sustainability goals, particularly populations often excluded from these conversations.
